Indoor Garden Update

Our indoor garden has been in for one month now and we are so pleased with the progress! If you would like to read about our experience in setting up our indoor garden, you find the information on our blog post "Starting an Indoor Garden."

Our AeroGarden one month after planting

Below is a progress breakdown by pod:

Lettuce/Mixed Greens (1st pod)

The first pod of mixed lettuce greens we planted is doing fabulous. I can't tell if two of the same kind of seeds sprouted or if it is just one large plant. We have harvested several leaves already. The plant continues to grow well so we should get a good harvest from this pod.

Lettuce/Mixed Greens (2nd pod)

The greens didn't come up at first in the second pod, so I added a couple more seeds and moved some of the sponge over the seeds since it hadn't really closed over them. I had no idea if it would help, I was just experimenting. They eventually sprouted and two plants are growing. Due to the delay in sprouting, though, they are much smaller than the plants in the first pod. You can just see its leaves peeking over the label in the front left of the photo.

Tomatoes (4 pods)

All four pods of tomatoes are growing well! They are leafing out and overshadowing some of the other pods, as the brochure said might happen. They are not yet tall enough to set up the trellis, but we anticipate setting it up soon.

Cilantro

The cilantro did not come up for several weeks and I assumed the seed was not viable. I decided not to replant this pod since the tomatoes will be growing large and bushy, and perhaps overshadowing the pod space. Nevertheless, I found two cilantro plants coming up this week! They are hidden by the tomato plants in this photo, but they are there in the center back!

Parsley

Somehow, I dropped a basil seed in with the parsley. Both have sprouted and are growing nicely. You can see them peeking over the tomato plants in the back left of the photo.

Basil

The basil pod is also growing well. It is harder to see in the photo because the greens are so large, but it is there in the back on the right.

Overall, we are so happy with the AeroGarden. We will definitely be planting in it again after this round is done producing. It was easy to set up and is easy to maintain. The information panel keeps track of how many days it has been since you planted and reminds you when to water and when to add the fertilizer. We had a brief power outage and when the power came back on, it asked if we wanted to start a new garden or continue with the one we had going. I was concerned that it wouldn't save the data when the power went out, but we were able to continue on with the push of a button.
