The Rolling Work Table - A Valuable Kitchen Addition

We had been talking about getting a work table for the kitchen for quite some time. This summer, we finally made the purchase--and it was a great choice.

Our kitchen has one long counter, at the end of which, at a 90 degree angle, sits the stove--right in front of the last set of cupboards. Yes, it blocks the cupboard and only leaves enough room to open the doors about 8 inches. It is a giant pain. Given its position, it also blocks the last couple of feet of what might otherwise be usable counter space. This leaves us with only one work area in the kitchen. With the number of projects and the amount of cooking from scratch that we all do, we felt like we could really use the extra work space.

Deciding we could use a work table and choosing one were quite different matters, however. We couldn't decide on whether the work table should be stationary or have wheels. We went back and forth on size and material as well. Did we want a wood one or a metal one? Should it be 18", 24", or 36" wide? How long did we want it? It needed to fit in our kitchen but leave us enough room to walk around both sides since there are usually several of us in the kitchen at any given time.

We looked at Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. We looked at Lowes and considered their options. We viewed numerous ones online. We finally purchased this one on Amazon early in the summer. Boy, has it made a difference!

Husband can make breakfast while younger son preps his lunch. Two (or more) people can do different projects at the same time without getting in each other's way. It is fabulous!

The table itself is made of stainless steel with sizeable legs, making it quite sturdy. It gives us a flat, durable surface on which to work. Two of the wheels lock in place to keep it from moving when you need it to be stationary. They easily unlock with just one movement of your foot. It came with a second set of inserts for the bottom of the legs in case we want to take the wheels off at some point in the future. The ends of the second set of inserts is nice and smooth so they won't scratch the floor.

The shelf gives us just enough extra storage for us to keep a few items handy that we use on a regular basis. In our home, this happens to be the baking pan we use each morning for bacon, a cutting board, and our bread keeper (a lidded bowl large enough to fit a loaf of homemade bread).

What is even better is that we can move the table next to the stove (yes, the stove that is placed in the worst spot imaginable) when we are canning, and it gives us so much more space. It makes it much easier for two people to work together. It gives us a place to prep the jars before they go in the canner and a place to put them after they come out. When finished, we just roll it back into place and we still have counterspace with which to work while the jars cool.

We have purchased many kitchen tools over the course of our married life. This is by far one of the best purchases we have made, especially for the kitchen we currently have. We couldn't be more pleased with this purchase.
